Emergency Management

Kyle Ready Emergency Management Logo

Overview

The Emergency Management Division is responsible for handling emergencies such as natural disasters or hazardous incidents. It operates out of the Emergency Operations Center at the Kyle Public Safety Center, which serves as a logistics hub for distributing critical information to the public and deploying resources effectively in case of an emergency.

This division is involved in all stages of an emergency, including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Emergency Management Coordinator partners with local, state, and national agencies to assess risks and develop emergency management plans for significant events. Additionally, the Emergency Management Division offers support, tools, and resources to the community and local stakeholders.

City of Kyle Weather Station

In March 2025, an official weather monitoring station was installed at the Kyle Public Safety Center as part of an enhanced weather preparedness initiative. This station will record the first official weather data for our community in 145 years.

This real-time data collection will be useful in forecasting for inclement weather impacting our area. Combined with the expertise of our incident response meteorologist Troy Kimmel, the City of Kyle Emergency Management division has set the new standard for weather monitoring in our area.

The public will be able to access the information from the WEATHERSTEM website, such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall at hays.weatherstem.com/kyleem

The first step in preparing for an emergency is to create an emergency plan. Talk with your family to ensure that everyone understands what to do during an emergency. Here are some key steps to include in your plan:

  1. Identify two ways to exit your home safely, such as doors, windows, or stairways.
  2. Select a meeting location outside your home where everyone in the family will gather.
  3. Store your emergency kit in a safe and accessible area.
  4. Compile a list of important telephone numbers and addresses.
  5. Outline an emergency plan for your children’s school or childcare center.
  6. Create a family plan for the event that you are separated, and designate trusted individuals that your children can call for help.

Evacuation refers to the quick and safe process of leaving a building or area due to a threat, such as a fire, chemical spill, or natural disaster. It is important to follow designated evacuation routes and proceed to the assigned safe location.

Lockdown involves securing yourself in a safe area within a building when there is an immediate threat, such as an active intruder. Lock doors, turn off lights, remain quiet, and follow any instructions from authorities.

Shelter in place means staying indoors and taking safety precautions during an emergency, such as a severe weather event or hazardous material release. This includes closing windows and doors, turning off ventilation systems if instructed, and staying informed through official updates.
