Summer Reading Program

Get ready to add some color to your summer, one book at a time! The Kyle Public Library invites readers of all ages to join our Summer of Color Reading Challenge. From babies to adults, everyone is encouraged to read for 45 days over the summer. Track your progress using our colorful reading log and earn a completion certificate and a chance to win awesome grand prizes!

But that’s not all, each week we’ll celebrate a different color with themed crafts, exciting guest performers, and interactive programs. Whether you’re joining a STEAM lab, catching a science show, or exploring the stars in a mobile planetarium, there’s something for everyone.

Start your summer with creativity, curiosity, and a whole lot of color. Pick up your reading log at the library starting May 27, 2025 and kick off the season with us!

Join the Kyle Public Library’s Summer of Color Reading Challenge and track 45 days of reading to earn a chance at some exciting prizes.

 

How to Participate:

  • Pick up your Reading Log at the library.

  • Color in a square for each day you read.

  • Complete 45 days and turn it in by Friday, August 2.

  • Prize winners will be drawn on Tuesday, August 6.

 

Ages 0-12:

Reading makes every day better, so plan to read 45 days this summer for the Summer of Color Reading Challenge! Mark off a day on the reading log each day you read - once you have 45 days, stop by the library to receive your completion certificate and a ticket to enter one of our grand prizes.

 

Ages 12-17:

Tweens and Teens who read 45 days this summer will receive a completion certificate and an entry ticket for the grand prize.

 

Ages 18 and older:

Summer of Color Reading Challenge is for you too! Read 45 days this summer and you too can enter a grand prize drawing.

ALL Summer Performers are ticketed events. Tickets may be picked up 30 minutes before the program. Attendees must be present to receive tickets. All events are limited capacity with tickets available while supplies last.

 

Mimi Zucchini's Rainbow Bubbles Show

Thursday, June 5th @ 2 PM

Watch as bubbles of all shapes and sizes float, pop, and even perform tricks. Beyond the fun, this interactive show explores the art and science behind bubbles, inspiring curiosity, creativity, and patience.

 

Oscar Muñoz - Comic Illusionist

Thursday, June 12th @ 2 PM

Family comedy magic show, featuring theater arts, music, mind-boggling magic tricks, mesmerizing mind-reading stunts, and exciting audience participation.

 

Daniel G. Benes Science Show

Thursday, June 26th @ 2 PM

This high-energy show features live experiments in physics, chemistry, and electricity, with thrilling demonstrations like air vortexes, color-changing liquids, and exciting chemical reactions. Packed with audience participation and jaw-dropping effects, this interactive show makes science fun for all ages!

 

Wild Things Zoofari

Thursday, July 10th @ 2 PM AND 3 PM

This exciting, educational experience introduces children to fascinating creatures while inspiring a love for wildlife and conservation. Throughout this engaging presentation, kids will learn about these animals and the importance of protecting their natural habitats.

*This event has multiple showtimes. Please arrive 30 minutes before the show you would like to attend to receive admission tickets.

 

Stars and Science Austin: Mobile Planetarium

Thursday, July 17th, MULTIPLE SHOWTIMES @ 2 PM, 2:30 PM, 3 PM, 3:30 PM

Step inside an inflatable dome and experience a guided tour of the night sky, complete with stunning views of stars, planets, and the Moon, day or night, rain or shine. Led by a trained astronomy educator, this immersive experience is perfect for all ages.

*This event has multiple showtimes. Please arrive 30 minutes before the show you would like to attend to receive admission tickets.

 

Summer Finale Party 

Thursday, July 24th @ 10 AM-12 PM

Join us as we celebrate the end of our fantastic summer of color!

Enjoy games, face painting, crafts, photo ops, and more!

Join us as we highlight a different public service every Friday this summer.

 

Kyle Parks & Recreation

Friday, June 6th @ 9:30-10:30 AM

Kyle Parks and Recreation will be at the library to get your summer "kicked off" to a great start! They'll offer some fun games, an obstacle course, and lots of information about what they have to offer this summer.

 

Kyle Public Works

Friday, June 13th @ 9:30-10:30 AM

Kyle Public Works have some of the coolest equipment they use every day to improve our city. Stop by to see the tools for their jobs and get some awesome pictures!

 

Kyle Police Department

The Kyle Police Department works hard to keep our community safe. Stop by and meet officers, learn more about their job, and explore their vehicles.

 

Hays County Health Department & Hays County Office of Emergency Services

The Hays County Health Department and Hays County Office of Emergency Services work hand in hand to keep our county healthy and safe. Stop by to check out their Mobile Vaccine Unit and Command Truck for yourself!

 

Kyle Public Library

Toot, Toot! Beep, Beep! The KPL Mobile Library is excited to show off for you! We will have fun activities and a craft, as well as the chance to hop on the mobile library and see how cool it is!

 

Kyle Fire Department

Kyle Fire Department has the biggest and loudest equipment to help keep us safe. Stop by to meet firefighters and learn all about their safety equipment.
